LEPs Students Practice Interview Skills with Professionals
Nineteen seniors from the Law Enforcement & Public Safety Magnet Program at Manalapan High School participated in a series of interviews with professionals in the field. In the weeks leading up to the interviews, LEPS instructor Tim Geddes, Forensics teacher Kathleen Samuel, and Supervisor Michelle Lilley worked with students on interviewing skills.
Representatives from various agencies were on site to interview the students, including the Monmouth County Fire Academy, the New Jersey Department of Corrections, the New Jersey State Police, the Department of Homeland Security, and several local police departments. In the first part of the day, students interviewed with professionals aligned with their career interests for twenty minutes, then spent ten minutes debriefing on how they performed. Students participated in three interviews throughout the morning session. Later in the day, students continued with panel-style interviews and then a group problem-solving activity. In the past, these interviews have led to students being offered summer employment/internships and full-time positions in their career path.
